When you’re a budding concert pianist, it can be difficult to know where to start.
But now there are many more options in Melbourne for aspiring composers to discover.
The National Symphony Orchestra is one of them.
“It’s pretty easy to get started, because you can get started at a local music venue, a music academy or an audition,” said Associate Professor Brian Hill.
“But if you want to go beyond that, then there’s a whole bunch of places to go.”
There are so many great music venues in Melbourne that it can take you weeks to find your way around.
So how do you find them?
If you’re in the mood to get out of your comfort zone and get to know your own musical side, then you can head to Melbourne’s west coast for a concert orchestra.
“It can be a great place to start, if you’re interested in learning about the music of the West Coast,” Associate Professor Hill said.
“If you want something that’s not classical, then that’s great, but you can go to a really, really good classical orchestra or a great classical orchestra.”
There are also some great classical music academies in the area, such as the Royal Melbourne Academy of Music and the University of Melbourne, but there’s always one thing you have to look out for when looking for the best.
“When it comes to music, you can look for great classical or great orchestral or even classical jazz players,” Associate Lecturer Matthew Smith said.
It’s not a question of which one is best, but which one you like best.
“It’s always important to try and find a concert pianists’ school where you can actually hear their music,” Associate Prof Smith said
