WASHINGTON (AP) A man convicted of rape who was sentenced to life in prison for the 1998 killing of a 17-year-old girl has been released from prison after being freed from a mental hospital, according to court records.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that Jeffrey A. Lacey was freed from the psychiatric hospital Wednesday after serving 13 months in federal prison.

He had been serving his sentence at the Washington State Correctional Institution near Seattle.

Lacy, who is also known as Jeffery L, has a history of mental illness.

The Associated Press reported that Lacey, 63, was released after serving 18 months behind bars in 2010.

He was found guilty of raping a 16-year old girl in Seattle and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

He was released in 2010 and was convicted of a lesser charge of raping an adult woman.
